Rehab Workout: Knee Stabilizing Moves

Rehab Workout: Knee Stabilizing Moves

Today I sit down to discuss one of the most frequent video requests I get: rehabilitation workouts.  My badass co-worker, Laura Crago, is currently in recovery from a DOUBLE knee surgery.  But that doesn’t stop her from getting her workouts in.  She’s making the best of it, and blogging her entire experience.  Check out her blog here.  Laura shares her favorite moves for rehabbing them ol’ knees!

Tuesday Turn-On: SXSW Picks

South By South West (SXSW), a music conference originally intended to feature local musicians and unsigned artists, has now turned into a corporate sponsored week-long party.  This year is bigger than ever, thanks to the iTunes festival, Lady Gaga and secret shows by JBeibs.  It's hard to sift through the hype and find up&coming acts on their grind, driving broken-down vans, schlepping their own equipment and promoting their music over youtube and soundcloud pages.  I happen to know a few incredibly talented artists fitting just this description, thus I present you with my "SouthBy" picks of 2014.

Enjoy the party and be safe, kids! xx

Tuesday Turn-On: Fever Dream

Every night I've been chasing warm weather and sunshine in my sleep to get me through this season.  Here's a dreamy hour long playlist for some warmer nights, even if you're spending it under the covers.  Step Rockets Kisser, Tegan and Sara Closer,  Young Summer Fever Dream and Laura Welsh Undiscovered are my personal favorites.  Enjoy.

You're the only one that I've got. But I can't get lost in you. I can't get lost with you.  I can't be someone that I'm not... t0 make it up to you. You're undiscovered. I wanna see the rest of you.  I can't get next to you.

"Raw" Beanless Zucchini Hummus

gorilla-food-04

I eat soooo much hummus. I know for a lower-carb diet, it’s not the best.  So I found this recipe from Clean Eating and I love it.  Low-carb hummus.  yum. now I just have to avoid dipping BREAD in it!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 raw zucchinis, peeled and chopped
  • 6 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 2 pinches cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup raw tahini
  • 1 cup sesame or sunflower seeds or pine nuts
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzle
  • Fresh parsley, minced for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Place all ingredients, except oil and parsley, into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth or to desired consistency. Drizzle with oil and garnish with parsley. Complement it with crudités, raw flax crackers or whole-grain pita bread. You can also spread it on sandwiches or mix it with salads.
